What Causes Pain In The Lower Back?

My wife has had lower back pain for over a week. She is 62 and it gradually came on after a week of carrying our toddler grandchild up and down stairs for several days. She has seen a chiropractor for two visits recently, doing some prescribed exercises and taking Motrin for pain. As husband, I lost a friend to cancer and his first symptoms were lower back pain. Frankly, I am somewhat concerned knowing when back pain is due to muscle strain versus cancer related.

In all probability, your wife is having the low back pain due to the unaccustomed exercise of carrying your grand child up and down the stairs for several days. This could have caused lower back ligament and muscle strain. She may continue with the prescribed exercises, and medication. However very important is that she does not carry any heavy object, including your grand child till complete healing of the strained ligaments and muscles. This problem cannot be cancer. however to remove your anxiety, she can get an XRay or MRI of her lower back lumbar spine.
