What Causes Pain In The Lower Back?

Hello, I ve been having some lower back pain for 3 weeks. I m an active golfer. I ve noticed in the mirror that my right hip and shoulder is higher than the left and I can see a curve of my spine. I looked this up and it said I might have scoliosis so I asked my friend to look/feel my spine. She said she felt a curve to the left so I think I might have scoliosis. The problem is that my mom won t take me to the doctor. She says it s a simple backache from golf and overuse. How do I tell her I might have scoliosis and convince her to take me to the doctor before it gets worse?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern but I think your mom is right. Your pain looks like a mechanical pain which may be caused by your golf. There is always little curve in our spine. If you have no weakness or your pain is not very severe, I would suggest you should not worry. You should do some physiotherapy and correct posture.

Hopes the pain would settle in few days. If not you can always see your doctor. You have always the choice to get another opinion if you are not satisfied.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
