What Causes Pain In The Foot And Numbness In The Toes?

I m experiencing occasional sharp shooting pain in my left center foot. I also have had prolonged numbness in my 3rd and 4th toes on the left foot for over a year. I ve seen a foot doctor twice and he gave me a shot of cortisone on one visit. It seemed to help for a few days and then the numbness continued. and I ve been living with it since. I have flat feet and are having in sole arches being built. But for now is there a remedy I can take now or getr something over the counter to relief this shooting pain when it shows up? I m soking my foot in war water and this this seems to help somewhat.
