Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I am currently experiencing ear and jaw pain. A few years ago, I was told I have TMJ but I have also had recurrent inner ear infections. The pain started three days ago, being at its worst yesterday morning into today. Today there was also draining coming out of my ear. My jaw is also clicking upon opening and closing, and there is pain when doing so. I am not sure if I should go to a dentist or my primary care provider for this.
Well drainage from ears is due to ear infection only but clicking of the jaw on opening and closing the mouth is due to disturbances in the functioning of the jaw joint and is related to TMJ/TMD.. You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a Panoromic x- ray has to be done to rule out the exact problem with the jaw joint.. It can be treated with mouth guards, Physiotherapy and a combination of muscle relaxant and painkillers.. Also take a soft diet and avoid excess mouth opening like during chewing, yawning, laughing etc.. For ear discharge consult an ENT physician and he can advise you oral antibiotics, antibiotic ear drops and nasal decongestants..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
