Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Chest Muscles And In The Left Arm Below The Shoulder?
My Husband age 68 is experiencing muscle discomfort in his chest area on the left side He did lift weights three days ago. He took aspirin this morning he says it feels like muscular pain this the lower ribs. Some pain is also in the left arm below the shoulder midway to elbow....any sports medicine people to weigh in on this? the pain is intermittent . At rest the pain subsides.
It is possible that it is muscular pain as the pain occurs on movement and is relieved while on rest. It may have happened because of lifting heavy weights which may have lead to a muscle spasm. But it is advisable that you get his EKG done as the pain of angina also presents in the same manner.
In case it is cardiac in origin, it will need further investigation. Once that is ruled out you can take a muscle relaxant like chlorzoxazone and ice the region to relieve the pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
