What Causes Pain In The Buttocks After A Hip Surgery?

I had hip surgery and after 5 months of no pain I had played golf. I then got pain in the cheek of my butt, the one I had surgery on. The muscle in the leg would get very tight after several swings and the pain would get more intense. I have stretched and have had some massage therapy. I still continue to use this therapy. The pain generally is more intense when I do swing a club because I turn on that leg. What can I do to stop the pain. Pain pill are not good for me for I have some kidney problems.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

In this area, it may indicate several issues and most common area pilonidal cyst or perianal abscesses.

These are inflammatory processes in the sacral and perianal area usually manifested with pain, redness, swelling, fever and pus discharge.

Cellulitis is less common and may be present in the sacral area as well.

This is mostly caused by beta-hemolytic streptococcus and it necessitates antibiotic treatment with Augmentin, or combination of ciprinol+ metronidazole.

You should also, apply cold compresses, take nonsteroid painkillers such as Ibuprofen and rest. If there is no improvement within 2 days, you should see a doctor and have intravenous antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
