What Causes Pain In The Big Toe Radiating To The Foot?

I have a sharp pain in my big toe that shoots from my toe to the middle of my right foot when I point my foot straight out and extend my foot and toes. No issues with my left foot. I don t think I ve injured it, and it only hurts when pointing or extending my foot straight. Walking and resting it is fine. I noticed yesterday that my big toe feels a little numb as well. Is this a ligament issue? Nerve issue? I ve had plantar fasciatis before, but that went away with shoe inserts that I wore for about a month and haven t had problems in more than 4 years.

Oncologist 's  Response
Hello,

Tarsal tunnel syndrome. Occasionally, foot pain is caused by a pinched or irritated nerve. With this condition, a person may experience shooting, burning, aching, numb, and/or tingling pain that radiates from the inside (big toe side) of the ankle into the arch and sole.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Esmeralda Sera, Oncologist
