What Causes Pain In My Ear?

I had a flu and one day, my ear starts to pain me so much and I decide to see a doctor. He told me I had ear infection. My ear then got better but my ear wax is kind of greenish and seemed to have fungus like on bread, black in colour.. and my ear wax was not watery, it s kind of slimy and looks like my skin was together with it. My ear wax turned like this every time I got a flu. I have severe sinus problem.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi, pain in ear with flu is not uncommon and usually means that infection from nose or throat has travelled via Eustachian tube to the ear leading to inflammation of the middle ear cleft. Other reason can be an accompanying external auditory canal infection which you seem to have as per your description. Change in the character of wax with flu is not there usually unless you have a tympanic membrane perforation. Otherwise otomycosis accompanied with wax will produce such symptoms. Please see an ENT and get your ear cleaned and he/she can comment on your tympanic membrane also. Please avoid entry of water in your ear for long term good results. Regards
