What Causes Pain In Lower Back Radiating Towards Left Buttocks?

Lower back pain began about 2 months ago. Feels like a strained muscle that extends down my left buttocks. I can sit, stand, run and walk, but when I move in a certain way the pain feels like a pinched nerve that can drop me to my knees. I have been working on core strengthening, but seems to to be improving.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain in lower back radiating towards left buttocks . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like , but in your case it seems to me that the symptoms are due to nerve injury , pinched or compressed nerve ( Sciatica ) , which may occur due to your disc bulged problem , arthritis or gout . I would suggest you to continue exercises , apply hot compresses on back and take proper rest . Consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order x-ray , CT scan and MRI . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant , anti inflammatory , methotrexate , allopurinol and recommend particular type of stretching exercise , keep your leg elevated while lying down or physical therapy . Doctor may also recommend surgery . Do not lift heavy object and avoid bending forward .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
