What Causes Pain In Lower Abdomen Radiating To Rectum While Walking?

I was walking in the mall when I began to have an acute pain from lower abdomen down in to rectum. I felt like my rectum was going to fall out. I was nauseated. Walking was painful. After I sat down pain eventually went away but nausea persisted for a while. Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you are getting nauseated, take some antacids & anti emetics to get relieve. Pain in the lower abdomen radiating to the rectum is due to spasms of the pelvic floor muscles, the muscles of the anal sphincter, or the muscles of the rectum.

This type of pain may come without any warning & is severe. To avoid it, take rest between work in office or at home. Make sure you are not constipated or have gastritis. They may trigger Proctalgia.

Ideally the pain & discomfort go away with a little rest but for relieve you can take omeprazole or Pan-40(pantoprazole) & acetaminophen, one sos when needed.

Stay away from stress, anxiety, depression. These factors may trigger the symptoms & cause you discomfort.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K
