What Causes Pain In Leg?

My wife is having problem in her legs, at times she is having pain in one of her leg. It happens in one leg at a time either right or left. We consulted orthopedic doctor but he prescribed few medicines and the pain was gone, but it started soon after she went off her medicines. mostly the pain is happening in and around her knees. Could you help in suggesting something?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
If she is elderly then it seems that this pain might be due to some degenerative changes in her knee joints giving this problem.
Go for x-ray both knee joints for osteoartheritis.
Ask her to go for patellar exercises daily 10 minutes in the morning and evening.
Ask not bend her joint less than 90 degree.
Give her Calcium, vitamin A and D supplements.
Avoid squatting position.
Ok and take care.
