What Causes Pain In Left Side Of Head And Ear Along With Difficulty Swallowing?

I m 54 yr old white male. The past several days I ve been experiencing pain on left side of head.... ear pain, hurts a little on left side to swallow, my hair and left side of skull has a tingling, burning sensation....I haven t had any impact incident. Thought I may have slept wrong and was just stiff, cramped but doesn t seem to be going away. How long should I wait before seeking medical attention. Not getting worse but not going away either. Hello,

You are experiencing symptoms of ear pain and difficulty in swallowing, it can be indicative of an ear infection. Most ear infections are caused by a bacterial or viral infection in the middle ear. However, it can also be due to medical conditions like cold, strep throat, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, etc. Tingling sensation is often due to cold. You are suggested to do stretch exercises for the neck, shoulder and hands. If the pain in due to strain of some muscle of tendon, it will get fixed. Gargle your throat with warm salt water 3-4 times a day. Restrict talking, give voice rest. Take antihistamines at bed time.

Take semi solid food (oats , porridge, custard, etc.) so that you do not hurt your throat muscles while eating. Take warm water and warm beverage. Keep yourself warm. Take Acetaminophen, one SOS after food to ease discomfort and pain. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT to detect tonsillitis, strep throat, pharyngitis, etc. Get necessary investigations done. If reports are positive you will need antibiotics / anti-virals.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
