Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In Left Buttocks Radiating Towards Thigh And Leg Numbness?
I have had pain in my left buttock/hip area(left hand side) for 2 weeks. The pain radiates down my thigh. For the last few days I have had numbness in my whole leg, and the pain is worse when sitting or lying down. I am a 58 year old female in good health.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pain in hip region radiating to thigh and numbness of whole leg is suggestive of nerve related disorder. The site of pain and numbness raises the possibility of compression of spinal nerves while they emanate from spinal canal. A clinical assessment of site of pain, nature of pain, radiation of pain and site of numbness is required. In addition, relevant investigations like X-ray and MRI of spine are required to observe the status of spine - vertebrae and soft tissues (nerves and surrounding muscles). A definitive diagnosis can only be made after clinical assessment and relevant investigations and thus management can be done. In the meanwhile, you may take pain killers for the pain.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
