Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 74--in good health. Having a mild/moderate pain in back and front of chest off and on today. Some belching. Some small pain in shoulders and left upper arm. Sometimes I get that from neck vertebral problem. Have felt mildly fatigued last 2-3 days--a bit light headed or weird. A little change in heart rhythm a few minutes ago. Has settled down. I have had GERD in the past and been to ER a few times several years ago, always GERD. Face feels somewhat tingly. Female. Take cholesterol meds---count is about 220 or so.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pain in back and front of chest with a past history of GERD indicates that this pain is due to reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. Reflux can cause pain in chest, back and even in upper limb. Thus, I suggest you to consult a gastroenterology. A cardiac assessment will be helpful to rule out any cardiac ailment because cardiac problems can also lead to chest pain. A change in heart rhythm may be due to anxiety and does not necessarily suggest cardiac illness but cardiac assessment is required. Proton pump inhibitor is a group of drugs used to treat GERD however, if the problem is recurrent an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy will be required to look for evidence of inflammation or ulceration.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
