What Causes Pain Below The Knees?
For 6 months, I have often woken up with pain in my lateral, anterior femurs, just below the knee joint and is a bit tender on palpation. It is variably more painful on either leg. There is little to no discomfort during the day. I sleep on my sides, but always have. This would seem to be a positional issue. Any thoughts?

With your details , in my opinion the pain at night is due to spinal canal stenosis. I would suggest mild pain killers , muscle relaxants and a combination of pregabalin and methycobalamine . For diagnosis MRI of L S Spine is required.
