What Causes Pain Behind The Right Thigh?

I have pain on the back of my right leg, just above the knee. It hurts when I get up or sit down. The pain is very minimal when I walk, but severe when getting up or sitting. I don t know of any injury to my leg, but the pain has been getting worse over the last week or two. I do sit for long periods of time but then have to climb into and out of a trailer. I m 55 years old. What could be causing the pain? Thanks Keith

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It may be varicose vein or thrombophlebitis. Avoid prolonged sitting and standing. Apply crepe bandage, get checked by a surgeon, and keep it under observation may be it requires surgery. Past strain has caused the problem. Now stop giving the strain and keep it under observation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar Dash
