What Causes Pain Behind The Legs?

My 9yo son has been complaining of pain on the backside of his leg & the veins in the area are dark blue and when I compared he two they’re both prominent just in that area. On the right however there’s pain over the tendon alongside the back of the knee. I put some Zum Rum on it. Should I be concerned?

Hello,

After going through history and Age [9 years], I have the following opinions:

1. Pain behind the legs could be growing pains and usually don't interfere with child's ability to play sports or be active, consult your Primary care Physician about the same.

2. As you have noted discoloration and prominence it could be a problem with the lymphatic system could be because of DVT [deep vein thrombosis] so seek immediate medical intervention [vascular surgeon opinion] or visit an ER.

The symptoms have to be carefully assessed by your doctor to ensure that whether it requires immediate medical attention or long-term therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Munish Sood
