What Causes Pain And Swelling With A Bump At The Heel?

I have had pain & swelling at the back of my right heel for 3 months, and now a bump has formed at the site of the pain. This does not sound like a heel spur, which would cause pain on the bottom of the heel. Could it be the start of arthritis in the heel? The pain is more intense when I get up in the morning (even before getting out of bed) and when I walk after lying down or sitting.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
It could be retrocalcaneal bursitis due to haglund deformity. Initially conservative treatment is appropriate in form of anti inflammatory medicines, cold fomentation, crepe bandage support. If conservative treatment fails surgical treatment may be required.
