General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.This is not just a gas.
This is indicative of an obstruction somewhere in the GI tract, or may be a pseudocyst of pancreas, stomach outlet obstruction and so on.
The best diagnosis is made by the following:
-Upper GI Endoscopy
-Ultrasonography to start with.
-Confirmation by contrast enhanced CT scan of the whole abdomen.
-Enteroclysis if required.

Once the diagnosis is made , treatment can be decided according to the findings and patient be prepared well in advance for a better outcome of the surgery. This is done by getting the hemoglobin and serum proteins, multivitamins corrected as such patients will have multiple deficiencies.
