General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Pain and swelling can be due to sprain or stress, but commonly it is either due to peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage) or plantar fasciitis. Overuse, inflammation or injury to the plantar fasciitis causes discomfort. Get general examination and nerve function tests done.

For relieve from pain take NSAIDs medications, steroid injection, physical therapy is effective in reducing the pain and swelling. Take the help of a physiotherapist. You can apply analgesics like Voltaren locally in the sole of the foot, pain relieving balms and sprays (Volini). Use of moisturizing silicon pain relieving socks or compression socks are helpful. Take vitamin B12 with folic acid, potassium and magnesium. Soak your foot in a cool Epsom salt bath twice or thrice daily. Make dietary changes and avoid getting overweight.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K,
