What Causes Pain And Swelling In Ankle After An Injury?

Playing football and got tackled as i went to place my foot down and i went over on my ankle and i heard it crack twice. Very swollen and painful when i put any kind of weight on it. Also most pain comes from the outside of my ankle and the front of my foot at the ankle

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

As per your complain in case if you have got traumatic injury to the ankle leading to hearing of cracking sound and you are unable to put weight on it along with swelling and severe pain, then there is a possibility that there is bony fracture and it can be confirmed by consulting an Orthopedician and he can advise an x ray to rule out for fractures..
In case if fracture is ruled out reduction and immobilization using a cast or splint will be advised..
In case if there is no fracture then it can be a sprain or just a soft tissue inflammation..
In this case using a crape bandage or a brace with application of analgesic ointment can help.
Application of cold compresses will help..
You should also elevate your leg while lying down..
You should avoid excessive exertion or physical work..
Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone..
