What Causes Pain And Swelling Behind The Ear?

Hello. i am a 51 yr. old/female. i was awoken last night by pain behind my right ear. Two weeks ago, there was a small lump behind the ear but went away the next day. Right now, it is throbbing and a little swollen behind the ear. Could this be swollen glands?

Hi,

Suggestive of lymphadenitis (inflamed lymph glands behind the ear). Based on the history you had some localized infection behind your ear which led on to cause the swollen lymph glands behind your ear. Advise clinical examination and appropriate treatment like antibiotic and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs by your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
