What Causes Pain And Stiffness In Neck With History Of Gout?

My husband was recently diagnosed with Gout. He started Allopurinol last Friday after a few days of prednisone. He was symptom free until Monday. He woke up with a swollen right foot. He now has developed pain and stiffness in his neck and 100.2 fevor. He has experienced this pain stiffness in his neck and feeling cold with previous bouts of gout. Should we be concerned?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Gout can cause pain in the joints of feet however, neck is unlikely to be affected by gout.
Instead, fever associated with pain and stiffness of neck is suggestive of meningitis or inflammation of the meninges.
Meningitis is the covering of the brain.
Inflammation of meninges causes fever which may be high grade, pain and stiffness of neck.
However, clinical assessment and investigations are required to diagnose meningitis.
Consult your primary healthcare provider for further work up.

Thanks and take care
