What Causes Pain And Pressure In The Chest?

I went to the er early this am for chest pain, they took x rays, ekg, blood work, 2 troponins both negative. I was discharged but still have pain/ pressure in center of chest no where else. This is a different kind of pain than what I had earlier. Any idea what I could be dealing with? Should I go back to the er?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your question.

With the negative ECG and troponin you have ruled out life threatening causes.
This pain which you are having can be musculo-skeletal which can be triggered by stress, lifting weight, muscle strain, etc.
I would advise you to take a muscle relaxant (orphendrine or any other which is available).
Other cause of chest pain be of gastric origin which can be due to acid reflux.
Along with muscle relaxant you can also try over the counter paracetamol or ibuprufen (after food).

Wishing you good health.
If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.
Best regards.
