What Causes Pain And Discomfort In Abdomen Post Cholecystectomy?

Hi I am a 44 yr old female. In the last 3 yrs I have had a gallbladder removal, four miscarriages, sinusitis, and vertigo. I weigh about 14 stone and cannot shift my weight no matter what I do. I have 6 children, the youngest is 7. It s hard for me to eat healthily because I also have a hiatus hernia which causes a lot of discomfort when I eat most fruits or any food for that matter. Since the gallbladder operation in March 2014 I still get early morning pain and discomfort in my gut area. But what bothers me most at the moment is the sharp pain under my left rib I have getting mainly at night for the last week. Could you shed any light of what might be the problem of the latter. Dana

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Gall bladder surgery is unlikely to cause pain after one year.
The early morning pain, discomfort and sharp pain under the rib are probably due to hiatus hernia.
Hiatus hernia is likely to cause reflux, discomfort and burning sensation in the chest.
Management of hiatus hernia is primarily with surgery.
Medication like proton pump inhibitors may relieve the pain temporarily but definitive treatment is surgical correction of the hiatus hernia. and thus management.

Thanks and take care
Dr Shailja Puri
Thus, I suggest you to consult your surgeon for clinical assessment
