What Causes Other Pulse Other Than Heart Pulse Near Rib Cage?

I have an irregular pulse under my right rib cage. It is separate to my heart pulse. I have no pain just an uncomfortable feeling from the presence of this pulse. I believe Chinese doctors talk about other pulses from heart pulse. Is this pulse coming from an organ other than heart.

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

The feeling of pulse under your right rib cage can be related to inflammation.

You should know that all our organs, including muscles and soft tissues have small arteries. When there is inflammation, the pulse is more noticeable.

Chronic anemia or thyroid disorder can also mimic this clinical scenario.

In slim persons, the heart pulse can feel from radiation from the heart to other tissues like diaphragm. This is quite normal.

I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical exam and some tests:

- a chest X ray study
- blood lab tests (complete blood count, PCR, sedimentation rate, thyroid hormone levels).

You should discuss with your doctor on these issues.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
