What Causes Orange Coloured Urine?

I have a history of having sludge in my gallbladder. I had some back pain and ab pain for about 9 hours then it subsided. In the morning, my urine was an orange like color. I have not noticed that before when I have had the pain. Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

Orange colour urine could be due to two factors at this point in my opinion:

1. Consumption of food or drinks that contain colouring agents that can contribute to the urine changing colour

2. Mild bleed in the renal or urinary tract can also contribute to a change in the urine colour

I would not really be too concerned, and would advise you to drink plenty of water for the next 3-7 days. During this time, if the presentation subsides and does not recur at all, then you have nothing to worry about. But if at all you continue to have the lower abdominal or back pain, then visit a doctor for an ultrasound KUB (kidney, ureter, bladder) and a more detailed evaluation.

Best wishes.
