What Causes One Rib To Overlap On The Rib Above It?

Hi, one of my ribs on the right side of my lower chest over laps the rib above it. This leaves a sort of gap not present on my left side. Most of the time it doesnt bother me, though rarely it can cause discomfort, what are the reasons for this occuring did it just grow this way?

Hello,

As we need an x-ray to understand this pathomechanics. Since the history you mentioned doesn't provide any details of the injury than I suspect this to be an inborn defect which will be present for a long time. Taking an x-ray can help us understand the differences in the intercostal spaces of each rib and also understand the pathomechanics of the muscle and costochondral joints.

Post which we may be able to help with some guided breathing exercises which help to correct the movements of the rib cage and try to avoid future pains.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
