Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having cramping all day and around 3pm I started getting tightening in the stomach consistently for an average of 6 minutes in between and last an average of 25seconds. I tried calling doctor and never heard back. It calmed down a little bit but is still happening. When I lay down and don t switch sides its okay but when I m sitting I can feel the tightening coming on and then my stomach is hard for 30 seconds and then goes away but comes back again. Should I go in?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Intermittent abdominal cramping can occur due to number of causes and due to involvement of number of organs. The abdominal cramping could be due to food poisoning, food allergy, irritable bowel syndrome, gastrointestinal infection, inflammatory bowl disease etc. Sometimes involvement of other adjoining organs can also lead to abdominal cramping and pain like pelvic inflammatory diseases, menstrual cramps, liver or pancreatic problems etc. A detailed history, clinical assessment and imaging study is required to diagnose the condition and thus treat it. I suggest you to consult a gastroenterologist for further management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
