What Causes Numbness, Tingling And Itching In Mouth Post Wisdom Teeth Removal?

4 days ago I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed. All were impacted. My bottom right one, however, is causing a lot of trouble. Since the surgery, the bottom right side of my mouth has felt numb/tingly/itchy. I ve also noticed a hard, bony lump near the area. I m very concerned and I wanted some advice from someone other than the surgeon.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain tingling and numbness after wisdom tooth extraction can occur due to injury to the nerve (INFERIOR DENTAL NERVE) which supplies the lower jaw.

The inferior dental nerve is located very close to the roots of the wisdom tooth and while extraction any injury to it can lead to nerve paresthesia causing tingling sensation and numbness.

The itchy feeling and hard lump occurs due to inflammation that occurs commonly after wisdom tooth extraction or any other surgical procedure and it subsides slowly as you continue taking your medicines and follow the post operative instructions give to you by your dentist.

You can do cold compress over the swollen area to relieve inflammation and swelling. You need not to worry as it is nothing serious and will subside in a week or even less.

For numbness and tingling you will have to just wait and watch as if it is due to nerve injury it can take weeks or even months or at times even longer time to return to normal sensation in the area.

Hope your query is solved..
