What Causes Numbness On The Foot While Suffering From Subchondral Trabecular Compression Fracture?

My son had an MRI which the result showed The degree of low T1 signal represents a subchondral trabecular compression fracture without dominant articular collapse. THe fibular collateral ligament is intact. The Orthopedic doctor told him to stop playing tennis and no high impact exercise. If knee hurts try not to even walk on it. Do this for at least 6 weeks. My son goes to college away from home and is on the tennis team there. this happened right before going back to college. He decided to play anyway and it started hurting really bad. he is using crutches and not putting any weight on it. He has been icing it and elevating it too. He said that his foot is pale and tingles and numb. Could you please tell me why would the foot be pale, numb and tingling?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,Thanks for your query. After going through your query I came to know that your son got undisplaced fracture tibia without any articular collapse. He should have rest . The pain has increased due to fracture got slightly displaced due to activity. He said that his foot tingles, and is pale and numb. This can be due to increased swelling leading to imparement of limb circulation. I think you should get his angiography done to see circulation of limb. Analgesic such as ibuprofen will be helpful to relieve pain. Mecobalamine will help in recovery. Limb elevation on pillow and rest will reduce swelling. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it. I do hope that you have found something helpful. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. Wishing you good health. Take care.
