What Causes Numbness In Toe And Tingling In Finger After Having Heart Surgery?

I had open heart surgery April 2, 2015. I was in surgery for 7 hours. A few days after the surgery, I experienced a tingly, numbness in my right pinky finger. I also had pain on the side of my palm near the pinky finger. I also sometimes have numbness in my big toe on the same side.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It's a possibility that any nerve damage or impingement during surgery has lead to these symptoms however oral anti-inflammatory drugs as well as Gabapentin may be helpful.

A neurologist review and detailed sensory nervous system examination may be needed to narrow down diagnosis. Uric acid levels and RA factor may also be done to rule out inflammatory arthritis. X-ray cervical spine may be needed to rule out C. spondylosis.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
