What Causes Numbness And Tingling In Left Thumb?

The fingerprint side of my left thumb feels really weird, numb and tingling (like a rubber band is tied around it) it has been going on for an entire week. I haven t burned or don t recall injuring it. Have you heard of this, I m very concerned. Although it doesn t hurt it feels like a lot of pressure and distracting. I m constantly rubbing it squeezing it. My other fingers and wrist feels normal(isolated issue) if anyone has heard of this or can help me. If I new to see a doctor soon. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
Your problem seems to be pressure on nerve supplying the thumb. The pressure can be any where in nerve path.. local pressure in due to some swelling in the thumb itself/ carpel tunnel syndrome/ pressure in arm or fore arm problem or at cervical spinal level.
You need to get consultation of an orthopedic surgeon, get examined, X ray ot ct scan or MRI may be needed to pin point the cause ,followed by specific treatment.
Treatment would be either medicines, physiotherapy or surgery.
thanks.
