What Causes Nocturnal Leg Cramps Post A Microdiscectomy?

I have some numbness since my microdisectomy on my L4/L5 disc. I got hurt and a piece of bone was broken off and on my sciatic nerve and I had it removed. So now I ve been having weird nocturnal leg cramps that got a lot better once I went off my statin. Cramping tho only happens where I have numbness. I need to take the statin. High cholesterol is hereditary. Also Hamstring has completely locked up randomly during the day. Moments later it s fine. Nocturnal cramps go away after standing. Back Dr. says not related to my back?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

The problem may be due to restless leg syndrome seen in panic attacks or iron deficiency anemia etc.

It may be due to compressive neuropathy or radiculopathy. It may be due to statin-induced myositis (need serum CPK level estimation, muscle biopsy).

You may take other Anti hyperbilirubinemia drugs like fibric acid derivatives and niacin etc. Avoid caffeinated drinks and alcohol. Check hemoglobin status.

If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
