What Causes Night Sweats, hot Flushes And Pink Vaginal Discharge During Menopause?

I have been going through menopause for last couple of years and am still having regular night sweats and hot flushes but have been more emotional than usual for last couple of days and then after urination I wiped myself and there was a very pale pinky blood. Is this normal as I haven t had a proper period for about 2 years now?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The hot flushes are cause due to what we call as "Vasomotor responses to dwindling ESTORGEN". The light pink discharge is occurring likely due to presence of dwindling but still effective estrogen production. Some time it take 3-5 years to completely wear of effective estrogen production which is seen in 15% of females and is sometimes called as severe post-menopausal condition. We believe that the response occurs in hypothalamus (Brain part) which is responsible to maintain temperature control for the body. For reasons unknown the temperature setting for middle age women after menopause resets to lower temperature point (current hypothesis is the dwindling estrogen level leading to reset to lower temp).

Advise for treating hot flashes:
1) Triggers for hot flashes are usually hot beverages, food that is spicy, warm air temperature, highly stressful situations, alcohol, caffeine, and certain medication; if you are able to identify your own triggers then you may be able to avoid these hot flashes you are experiencing
2) For un-bearable symptoms Short-term hormone therapy is quite effective in treating hot flashes; contact your OBGYN and request them to prescribe the lowest dose of estrogen that effectively relieves symptoms
3) For self treatment option, several herbal products and dietary supplements claim to lessen menopausal related symptoms. I personally don't recommend them but just list them as an option. Effectiveness of such products are 25-30% as per few researchers.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
