Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for asking your query at health care magic.
I understand your concern. I am Dr Alok Sinha, MD Psychiatry from India. I will try to help you with best of my effort.

Marijuana or cannabis or more commonly known as weed is one of the most abused drug. But very few persons consuming it know how dangerous regular weed use is. Latest researches have proved that regular use of cannabis (weed) causes permanent damage to brain. It can bring structural changes in a human brain similar to that of a patient of a serious mental illness.

Regular abuse of any drug/substance predisposes brain to any kind of mental illness. It may lead to drug induced mood/anxiety disorder or even psychosis. In anxiety disorder caused by drugs the person may have sudden instances of extremely severe anxiety associated with pain chest/ heaviness in chest, breathlessness/choking sensation, headache/heaviness of head, nausea/vomiting, churning sensation in abdomen/increased bowel movement, frequent urination, tremors, fear of losing balance, fear of going crazy or fear of impending death. These episodes of extreme anxiety mimic like heart attack and a person perceives it potentially dangerous.

Initially it happens rarely at long interval but with passage of time after many years of daily continuous use, regular abusers witness these kinds of experiences daily. As you old that you are having many of these symptoms that mean that your brain has started showing the effect of chronic drug use.

However, it is unlikely to be a permanent phenomenon, as permanent brain damage occurs after about 10 years or more of daily abuse. But definitely your brain has started giving you clues and it will be a wise decision to get rid of this drug at the earliest. You must consult a de-addiction centre/ psychiatrist for professional help.

Hope it answers your query. I wish you a better drugs free life.
