Hello,
Thank you for your query.
Yes, black tarry stools indicate intestinal bleeding.
Would you please clarify a few things for me?
- does he smoke or consume alcohol?
-any history or
gastritis or gastroduodenal ulcers?
-is he on any medication (like blood thinners)?
-any other medical issues?
I recommend :
-a visit to the ER or his physician /gastroenterologist right away.
-a
endoscopy to check for source of bleeding and to treat, if possible
-blood tests (
complete blood count, peripheral smear, clotting profile, liver and
kidney function tests)
If the pain worsens or bleeding persists, visit the ER right away.
In the meantime, have soft, bland diet.
Avoid spicy food, carbonated, caffeinated and sugary drinks and drink plenty of water.
A
CT scan, x-ray will not show any bleeding. I urge you to seek medical attention right away.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
