What Causes Nasal Bleeding And Blood Clots In The Throat?

I woke up at 5:00 a.m. with a clot of blood in my throat and my nose (on left side) was bleeding. I ve had nose bleeds before so I got out my clamp, squirted in some naisal spray. put the clamp on and sat up. Now,almost an hour later, it s still bleeding although no more clots have come to my throat. Should I be alarmed or should I just keep sitting up with clamp and see what happens? (I am 83 and live alone.) Carol YYYY@YYYY

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. These symptoms are mostly seen in hypertension or nose capillary breakage. If your blood pressure is fine, you should see ENT doctor to have nose and phariny endoscopy since some more serious issues may be present if there is persistent blood in mouth and nose.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wish you a good health.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
