What Causes Muscle Spasms In The Arms And Legs?

I have been experiencing muscle spasms in my arms and legs, a constant ache in my shoulders, occasional burning sensations in my arms and legs and a tightening of my throat, making it difficult to move or swallow. I am at type 2 diabetic and get shooting pains in my feet.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

As you may know, one of the diabetic complications involves damage to the nerves.
It can affect different types of nerves such as those controlling movement of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach and intestines) as well as nerves in the limbs.

This means that it is quite possible that the diabetes may be the cause of your symptoms.
There are other causes of neuropathy (nerve related pain) such as :(1) trauma
(2)vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(3)abnormal levels of vitamin b6
(4)thyroid disease
(5)liver or kidney disease
(6)side effect of medication

To find out if any of these are present, you would need additional blood tests.

There are medications that can help treat nerve symptoms. Eg amitriptyline, nortriptyline, tegretol, lyrica, gabapentin

I hope this helps
