What Causes Muscle Atrophy In A Child?

my son is experiencing muscle wasting which the doctors say is due to his lack of ability to process protein He is diabetic and they are having trouble controlling his blood sugars he runs around the 400s most of the time. What does this mean and is it critical or fatal?

Your child is having Diabetes Type I and must be on Insulin. Diabetic amyotrophy is a complication of uncontrolled diabetes. Improved glycemic control should be aggressively pursued.
