What Causes Muscle Aches In Back Despite Taking Z-pak For Strep Throat?

I've been battling strep throat for nearly two weeks (I had no voice for 6 days). I was prescribed z-pack and finised my dose on Wednesday (today is Saturday). I felt like I was getting better Thursday and yesterday. Today I am wiped out. I feel very drained, and have had muscle aches throughout my back. My voice and throat doesn't feel any better either. Is this normal to start feeling worse again? Am I on the mend or not? Should I have been prescribed z-pack for this? I've read that it was for bacterial infections and I understand strep throat is a viral infection. Can you clarify?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that there is infection in throat that can be bacterial or viral in nature and strep throat is caused by Streptococcus bacteria and is not viral infection..
In your case it seems like more of viral infection, but I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Throat swab culture can help in exact diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
In case of viral infection you can be advised to take supportive treatment as they are not relieved with antiviral medicines as they are relieved only when the virus completes its cycle in body..
In that case you can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen combination.
You can do warm saline gargles and do steam inhalations..
Avoid straining of the throat by aloud speaking..
Chew Vitamin C pellet and suck throat lozenges..
In case of bacterial infection antibiotics can be given given..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
