Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Mumbled Speech, White Lips And Dry Mouth Post Ativan IV Administration?
My mom 95 yrs. was given Ativan by iv on Saturday today Tuesday she has not awaken yet. She moans or more like mumbles...cannot understand her. but has not opened her eyes almost like a semi-coma stage. She is in hospital and they said not a stroke as she moves her arms and legs. And her lips are white....mouth and tongue very very dry.
The usage of Ativan IV is sometimes associated with prolonged effects of the Ativan. This explains why she cannot be awaken. Now, her lips are white and tongue very very dry because of not consuming foods or drinks via mouth.
Should pat them with a wet cloth. If she cannot eat or drink via mouth, should apply iv fluids. On the other hand, please take note that your mom is old, and her body metabolism is reduced.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
