What Causes Mucus In The Bowels?

I recently had bloating and my stomach hurt so long after I ate. I developed diarrhea, which lasted a little over a week. I recently had 2 firm bowel movements but there was odd stringy muscus with the first one and some with the second but really odd looking gel like things. I have never seen this in my life or heard of it. Any suggestions.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Diarrhea for over a week and passage of the things that is mucus indicates the infective irritating lesion is still present.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get a clinical evaluation done by your Doctor. get the stool and blood tested to get an appropriate diagnosis.
Get started with proper antibiotic, metronidazole course.
Take probiotics and the problem may be solved, nothing serious about it although this has occurred for the first time.
If there is no complete relief within 5 days then you would required colonoscopy and CT scan of the abdomen to get an appropriate diagnosis so that a proper further management can be done to get a cure.
