What Causes Missing Tonsils?

I had a cyst that was mostly removed from my thymus gland in 02 2012. After a visit to the doctor last Wed. he mentioned puzzled that he cannot see my toncils. I am getting a ct cont next Tuesday. Having problems either cysts envading my endrocrine system or other...we will know after the ct hopefully, however, I have always seen my toncils and now the doctor asked if I had them removed, could I have cancer that ate them up?

Hi.
The cancer can not eat the tonsils, in fact it will enlarge the tonsils.
IT is likely that your tonsils are regressed as these are lymphoid tissues and are known to regress as there function is gone or lost after a certain age.
So do not worry about so-called absent tonsils. It looks they are shrunk and are hidden behind the anterior pillar. You ENT will find them .
You do not need any treatment for this .
The CT scan should assure you well. Go for it.
