What Causes Missed Menstruation?

My wife has missed her periods for a week, and when we approached our Gynaec, we asked to take the UPT, and got the +ve. Also, she asked to take BETA HCG Test ( Hormonal ) and the results are 870+ and Dr confirmed her pregnancy of 4 Weeks. Also prescribed to take Tab Gestafol Plus for a month ( one tab every night 30 Tab ) as well as Tab Dubagest SR 200MG - Twice a day for a month. Also asked to go for BETA HCG and Ultra Sonography after 2 weeks. Is it normal step by step for all in general? This is Prime Gravida for my Wife. Pls guide us.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
What workup has been advised is right and it is step by step procedure. Missed periods with UPT positive and raised HCG levels indicate pregnancy. It takes about 6 to 8 weeks for detection of gestational sac and fetal pole by ultra sound scan, as has been advised.
Once that is confirmed, regular antenatal check ups will be advised accordingly.
All the best.
