What Causes Mild Back Pain Along With Knots Below The Shoulder Blades?

had friend pop my back by laying on flat surface , took deep breathe, let out and then their palms were pressed aganst my back to help it pop, which it did. Very loudly and uncomfortably. since then I have some mid back pain and I have felt some knots under my left shoulder blade where it seems to be pretty sore. it tends to hurt when I bend over and in other some other awkward lifting positions, which I do everyday at my job. but it also hurts to breathe in too deep. it felt somewhat better with just a massage.. if I blow my nose though it also seems to cause some pain. I do a lot of physical labor, so I know I am well in shape. on a scale from 1-10 I would say about a 4 with pain ..seems to be a dull sore pain but not subsiding for the last few days now... could popping my back in this way cause a serious problem?

Hi,

It is possible that the method used to pop your back caused mild back pain and knots below the shoulder blades. In some cases, forceful manipulation of the spine can lead to muscle strain or sprain, which can cause pain and discomfort. It is also possible that the pain and knots are unrelated to the popping of your back, and could be due to other factors such as poor posture, repetitive strain injuries, or stress.

To manage the pain and knots, you can try applying heat or cold therapy to the affected area, taking over-the-counter pain medications, and doing gentle stretching exercises. If the pain persists or worsens, it is recommended to consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation and treatment. In some cases, physical therapy, massage therapy, or chiropractic care may be recommended to help alleviate the pain and tension in the affected area.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
