What Causes Metallic Taste In The Mouth While On Antibiotics?

I was taking an antibiotic around mid May for strep throat. When taking the antibiotic I started having a metallic taste in my mouth. Though I have stopped taking it long ago I continue to have a metallic taste in my mouth (even though it should have disappeared when I stopped taking the antibiotics!). Any thoughts on this?

Hi..
Welcome to HCM..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain metallic taste in mouth after taking antibiotics seems to be most probably due to side effect of medication and is a common side effect of antibiotics..
But in case if the metallic taste has recurred then it can be due to causes like acid reflux, post nasal drip, sinusitis etc..
Consult an Oral Physician or an ENT and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations as per suspected cause can help in diagnosis and will be treated accordingly..
As of now you can take flavoured sugar free chewing gums and gargle with flavoured antiseptic mouthwash to mask the metallic taste..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
