What Causes Metallic Taste In The Mouth After Taking Steroids?

I took steroids several weeks ago and got metallic taste in mouth and then it went away but now it has come back and my tongue feels like it is swollen...All the medicine that I take is simvistatin 20 mgs 1 time a day and a capsule with calcium and vitamin d for my bones...I had epidural 2 weeks ago but the taste was already there and i am scheduled to have another one in a few days...When I am not waiting on epidural I take a 75 mg plavix every other night...

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Metallic taste in mouth is a commonly caused as a side effect of medicine intake.
Injectable medications can also cause metallic taste.
So if you have a metallic taste then take to your doctor if he can reduce the doses or change the medicines.
But in case if it is mandatory to continue the same prescription then you will have to cope with with the side effects and you can mask the bad taste by chewing sugar free chewing gums.
You can also suck tart candies and lemon drops to mask bad taste..
Maintain a good oral hygiene and clean your tongue with tongue scraper so that if any particles of medicines are on the tongue surface they will be cleaned off..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
