What Causes Metal Smell In Nose?

I have been to a walk in clinic and was prescribed naseptin nasal cream and have only started using it today. I had a very bad nosebleed on Saturday and a very small one on Monday and I suddenly have a smell of metal in my nose but it s not bleeding or anything so I was wondering what can I do about this?

Hi dear ,

As per query you are experiencing metallic smell and using naseptin nasal cream . Well there can be many reasons for metallic smell like bleeding from the nose, dry nose (atrophic rhinitis), sinusitis, dental filling, drinking boiled water, side effects of any medication and use of antibiotics . It seems to me that in your case naseptin nasal cream is the probable cause as it is known to alter the sense on taste and smell as its side effects.

A metallic smell will often go away once the underlying cause has been treated. You should contact your doctor if the bad taste persists. I would suggest to consult otolaryngologist . An otolaryngologist may order a taste test to help determine the cause . Doctor may prescribe substitute of cream . For now :-
1. Drink plenty of normal water
2. Use saline nasal spray to keep the nasal mucosa moist .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
