What Causes Menstrual Irregularities After Mirena Removal?

I am curious about my period. I had used a mirena after my second child, before her I had been on depo. So I hadn t had a period in over 10 years. Now that I am off of mirena, for the last two years, I haven t had a normal period. They are inconsistent and usually just clots and stringy tissue. Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Irregular periods may happen with hormonal imbalances but it is always good to have a check to make sure of the cause- any irregularity is not normal especially lasting for so long, 2 years.

You will need to have a vaginal examination, a pap smear and a transvaginal ultrasound and according to the results of these tests and examinations, the doctor will decide on the cause and further management of the irregular bleeding.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
